Where things stand
Four larger features are on the way: online renewal payments, a club website, email to members and SMS to members. All four are coming soon. None is available today, and we have not set dates for any of them.
This page sets out what each coming feature will do and how it will be priced, so the committee can plan with honest information. Unless a page says a feature is coming soon, the features pages describe what is available now.
| Feature | How it will be priced | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Online renewal payments | Clubs will pay Stripe its standard card fees; MemberCrew will take no cut | Coming soon, no date |
| Club website | Add-on, $50 a month including GST | Coming soon, no date |
| Email to members | Not yet published | Coming soon, waiting on an email provider |
| SMS to members | Pay as you go, price not yet published | Coming soon, waiting on an SMS provider |
Online renewal payments
Online renewal payments will let members renew and pay in the member portal. A member will choose how many years to renew for and any add-ons, then pay through Stripe Checkout.
The club will connect its own Stripe account, so the money will go straight to the club, not to MemberCrew. MemberCrew will take no cut by default. Clubs will pay Stripe’s standard card fees to Stripe.
Until then, the treasurer records payments made by bank transfer, cash or cheque, including part payments, against each member’s invoice. The invoices and payments page explains how that works today.
Club website
The club website will be an add-on to the core plan, at $50 a month including GST. It is for clubs that want a public website run from the same place as their membership records. ZenByte, which makes MemberCrew, builds websites for a living.
The website add-on will include:
- templates, so the club starts from a finished design
- pages for the club’s own information, with contact and officers pages
- posts and news, for club announcements and reports from runs
- a magazine archive, so past issues of the club magazine are kept in one place
- events on the website
- documents, such as the constitution or forms
- a join form for people who want to become members
- Buy and Sell, for vehicles and parts
- the club’s own domain, so the website sits at the club’s own address
Many clubs already have a website, often built years ago by a member who has since moved on. Keeping it up to date becomes one more job for a volunteer who may not know how. Running the website from MemberCrew is meant to make it part of the committee’s normal work.
Public event pages are already part of MemberCrew today, with no add-on needed. The events page explains how they work.
Email to members
Email to members, including invitations, is coming soon. It is waiting on the choice of an email provider.
Until then, clubs keep emailing members the way they do now. Member contact details are kept in MemberCrew, the report library has an email list by group, and the club can download a full export of its records at any time.
SMS to members
SMS to members will be charged on a pay-as-you-go basis, so the club pays only for the messages it sends. We have not published a price yet, and it is waiting on the choice of an SMS provider.
Some members, particularly those who do not use email, are easier to reach by text. SMS is intended to help the committee reach those members.
Smaller items on the way
Some smaller changes are also coming. None is available yet.
| Coming | What it will do |
|---|---|
| Roles screen | A screen for granting committee members their roles |
| Membership add-ons | The magazine and joining fee as add-ons the club sets up, with prices that can change from a future date |
| Repeating events | Events that repeat, such as a monthly run |
| Family membership | A membership that covers a family |
MR334 form numbers on vehicle records, and payments and ticketing for events, are coming later.
Getting ready for the website
A club thinking about the website add-on can do some groundwork now, whichever way it decides.
Find out who holds the club’s current domain name and the login for it. Domains are often registered in a past committee member’s name, and getting them transferred can take time. Gather past issues of the club magazine, including any only kept on paper, so the archive has something to start from. And decide who on the committee will look after news and pages once the website exists.
None of this commits the club to anything, and all of it is useful even if the club keeps its current website.
Getting ready for SMS
Text messages only reach members whose mobile numbers are on record and correct. If your club expects to use SMS, it is worth checking members’ mobile numbers now. Members can already update their own contact details in the member portal, and the report library lists members the club cannot contact. A clean list of numbers will be useful whether or not the club takes up SMS.
Why we are not giving dates
We would rather be plain about where things stand than promise dates we might miss. Committees plan their year carefully, and a feature that arrives late can leave a club stuck partway through a change.
If one of these features would decide whether MemberCrew suits your club, tell us. Book a demo, or email support@membercrew.au. We can talk through where it stands and what you can do in the meantime.
What you can use today
The core plan already covers what most committees need day to day: members and renewals, invoices and recorded payments, vehicles and log books, the Conditional Registration Scheme reports, events with RSVPs, reports, the member portal and the activity log. The pricing page sets out what the core plan costs for each club size.
